
NKYO Autumn Term 2026

The National Klezmer Youth Orkester (NKYO) project brings together young musicians to learn, share, arrange and perform repertoire from this lively and soulful eastern European Jewish musical tradition. Led by experienced teachers, NKYO and the NKYO Training Band are open to 8-18 year-olds from all backgrounds.

Time, place and dates
10.30am-1pm at SOAS, Thornhaugh Street, London WC1H 0XG on:
· 20 September
· 18 October
· 22 November
· 6 December (with short performance)
Training Band
Students must have been learning for a minimum of one year on their chosen instrument and be receiving instrumental tuition.
NKYO
Students must be around grade 4 standard and above (not necessary to have taken exams).
Students are welcome to register for the whole course, or for individual sessions.
Sessions will focus on:
· Learning melodies by ear
· Playing bass lines, chords and rhythms
· Essential elements of dance music
· Improvisation skills
· Ensemble work
· Leading a band
· Performance in practice
