Hear mid-20th century New World klezmer music on 31 May and 3 June.
Mid 20th century New World klezmer music combined the sensibility of the old world with energy of the new. Klezmer from the United States is pretty familiar now, but the music of the thriving Jewish wedding scene in mid-20th century Argentina also deserves an airing. As well as familiar names like Dave Tarras, in this programme klezmer fiddler Ilana Cravitz introduces tunes from less familiar Buenos Aires musicians including Berel Stal, Sam Liberman, and Sergio Feidman.
The Klezmer in the Americas band is: John Macnaughton – clarinet & sax, Oliver Presman – trumpet, Matt Bacon – electric guitar, Adina Presman – tuba & accordion.
